If your leather goods get wet in the rain, the following steps should be taken.
-
Remove moisture. Apply a soft cloth or towel to the wet area to remove moisture.
-
Dry in the shade. Place the leather item in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight. Exposure to direct sunlight may cause the leather to deteriorate, so be sure to dry it in the shade.
-
Moisturize the leather after it dries. Before the leather item dries completely, moisturize it using a leather moisturizer such as a leather conditioner. Leather becomes hard when it dries, so it's important to keep it supple with a moisturizer.
As a precaution, avoid drying the leather with a heating device such as a hair dryer or exposing wet leather directly to a heating device. This is because the leather may shrink or become deformed.
